How Long Do Tooth Fairies Live?
As you’ll have seen above, the Tooth Fairies are all sorts of different ages. Some are young and newer to the realm of lost teeth, and others are older and full of wisdom! There’s a real range of ages, just like in humans too.
But what is it that means these Tooth Fairies can live so long at times? Well, that has to do with the magical dust that helps them fly! Without this magical dust, the Tooth Fairies can still fly, but only for very short amounts of time and this tires them out much more quickly.
However, with this magical dust, they can fly for much longer and can even collect many teeth in one night from all over the world!
What is this magical dust made out of? Well there’s lots of different theories about this, but the truth is that no one really knows. Some say they find it in the forest that many of the oldest and wisest Tooth Fairies came from. Others say that a spell helps them create more of the magical dust.
But our favorite theory is that one of the ways that the Tooth Fairies use the teeth they collect from children (and there are many different ways!) is they grind them down into a fine powder. This powder is then what enables them to fly, and it also helps to keep them young!

For a Tooth Fairy, collecting teeth is something they love so much they hardly think of it as a job. This magical purpose and the love they have for it energises them and keeps them young (both on the inside and the outside!) so that they want to collect teeth for many more years to come.
Why Are Some Tooth Fairies Older Than Others?
There are two different ways that Tooth Fairies become Tooth Fairies. The first is that some are just ‘born’ into the role. It’s a bit of a mystery exactly how this happens, but it’s said that when a new magical region is discovered, there are always Tooth Fairies that emerge out of it.
When the fairies and other creatures are exploring these new magical regions, they discover all sorts of new things, and also new magic. They’ve found that one new thing they always seem to discover includes a new Tooth Fairy (or two, or three occasionally!), so it’s always an exciting time when a new region is discovered! But when a Tooth Fairy is discovered or chosen, they can’t just go straight out into the world and begin to collect teeth from people. No, first they must do some learning and training with the wise teachers at the Tooth Fairy Academy!
That’s right, there’s an Academy where fairies learn to become the perfect Tooth Fairy! There’s usually only a small number of fairies who attend at the one time, as there are not as many Tooth Fairies in general than you would expect. The ones that do exist are kept busy!
The Tooth Fairy Academy is said to hold classes on things like the best way to collect teeth (that’s why they never wake you when they collect the teeth!), letter writing and keeping track of the teeth they collect, and what to do with those teeth that they have collected. These last classes are individual, as each Tooth Fairy has a slightly different specialty that must be uncovered. This might depend on where they came from or what skills they’ve shown in their time in the academy. Each Tooth Fairy ends up doing something slightly different with the teeth that they collect!
At the end of their training at the Tooth Fairy Academy, each fairy comes out much more sure of themselves, they have a particular specialty, and they’re a tooth collecting expert that is sure to not wake you up when they visit you in the night!
